★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Fascinating sculpture. One of the best modern art pieces ever. Used to be on Omonia Square ages ago. Even more breathtaking now that it's finally been cleaned.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Stunning sculpture made of broken glass. Would never be possible in health and safety obsessed countries like Australia but thankfully is in Greece.
The best photos are early in the morning as the sun rises over the nearby Hilton hotel.
Definitely one of my personal highlights of Athens.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very interesting art. I heard that it was relocated from its original location to here and all parts are demantled and assembled again.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Dromeas, or The Runner, is a work by the the Greek sculptor Costas Varotsos. It took the artist 6 years before the statute was revealed to the public in 1994, in Omonia Square. Thousands of sharp edged glass pieces are stacked on top of each other to give a blurred image of a running figure. Later, and due to some technical worries about the vibrations caused by the underground trains, after opening a main metro station there, led to moving the statute to a small triangle square right in front of Athens Hilton.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I often pass this sculpture on my many walkabouts in Athens ... and it's always really impressive! ???
Lately however, I really thought it was dirty & needed a good "washing"? .... so when I passed it just an hour ago I was truly happy to see a cleaning team from the Kärcher company getting ready to leave after giving "The Runner" a very special high tech washing ....leaving him spic span clean and shining ??? and looking really great! ?
