We were a little disappointed with the worn, old furnishings. It wasn't that clean either ... shower with hair in the hair strainer, bathroom with no shower curtain at all, dust on shelves, TV, strange, dusty decorations. The appearance around the house (broken objects, partly plastic garbage, deep holes in the earth around the pool) just did not look well-kept and did not give the impression that someone was taking care of it. However, the pool itself was very clean. Partly broken garden loungers and patio chairs.

We stayed at Villa Meli for one week in July 2021, while our friends were accommodated at the two adjacent villas (Epavlis and Petra). We do not recommend this house under any circumstances. A. First of all, the cleanliness, comfort & practicality levels of the villa are really poor: (1) all furniture and appliances are very very old and smell and creak accordingly; (2) the kitchen area was in a really decrepit state, one could see that the dishes /cutlery were old and overused; also, the smell of mold coming from the lower kitchen cabinets was nauseating. The sink was very dirty. Even though we came prepared to eat most of our meals in-house, we ended up eating out 100% of the time, due to the fact that the kitchen was actually not usable under proper sanitary conditions; (3) the bathrooms have not been refurbished probably since the mid 90's: rusty faucets and shower heads, full of limescale, black mold between the tiles, the drains did not function properly; one of the toilet bowls was dirty when we arrived; (4) interior walls badly in need of re-painting; additionally, spiders and cobwebs were found in all upper corners and ceilings, a clear proof that house-cleaning is really lacking; (5) the washing machine could not be safely used, because upon opening the doors of the cabinet where the washing machine was installed, there were all kinds of bugs and spiders; probably nobody used it in a very very long time; (6) even though the area is naturally abundant in bugs /flies and other such insects, not all the windows had insect nets, so we couldn't air the house properly, even though upon arrival we found a very stale scent and probably the house has not been aired in a long long time. B. Second, an external incident happened on the first night we arrived there: the house was robbed, the burglars forced the patio door to enter, and all of our money and some personal items were stolen. So we spent the first part of our short vacation dealing with the police and various formalities to be undertaken. We know that this has nothing to do with the owners of the villa or the platform through which we booked it, but nevertheless it would have been nice to be informed upon the possibility of being burgled, in order to apply some basic rules, such as: always leave some lights on, always close the wooden shutters, etc. Honestly, we were not expecting that in a friendly and really cosy little Greek village, where people actually leave their doors open all the time, we would feel so unsafe and "targeted". The burglars must have known that new tourists are coming in on Saturdays, since they robbed the house just one or two hours after we arrived, exactly when we left it to go visit the adjacent villa, where our friends were staying. Needless to say, our friends also felt vulnerable after the incident at our villa. As a conclusion, we strongly do NOT recommend Villa Meli in Methoni.
