★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Wir entdeckten dieses (Krieger) Denkmal, während einer Rundfahrt auf Kreta und machten einen kurzen Stopp. Etwas besonderes ist es nicht. Wir meinen, weniger ist oft mehr! Am besten gefiel uns die kleine Kapelle, die sich kurz vor dem Denkmal ? befindet. Man hat einen schönen Blick von hier in Richtung Meer und nach Ano Viannos. Derartige bzw. ähnliche Denkmäler findet man in Griechenland des öfteren.
We discovered this (warrior) monument during a cruise on Crete and made a short stop. It is not something special. We mean, less is often more! We liked the little chapel, which is located just before the monument ?. It has a nice view from here towards the sea and to Ano Viannos. Such or similar monuments are often found in Greece.

September 1943 erschossen sie als Vergeltung für einen Partisanenüberfall, bei dem 12 Deutsche getötet worden waren, alle Einwohner der naheliegenden Dörfer Péfkos, Káto und Áno Sými und zerstörten diese bis auf die Grundmauern.

Ich finde das Denkmal sehr beeindruckend und gut gestaltet, man sollte hier nicht Bilder mit Selfies veröffentlichen.
Áno Viános is a memorial to a massacre that German Wehrmacht soldiers carried out on 440 Cretans. From September 12 to 14, 1943, in retaliation for a partisan attack in which 12 Germans were killed, they shot all the residents of the nearby villages of Péfkos, Káto and Áno Sými and destroyed them to the ground.
