Εμβληματικό στοιχείο της Ελασσόνας, το άγαλμα του Νίκου Τσαρα, γιού του Πάνου Τσάρα, που έπαιξε σπουδαίο ρόλο στην επανάσταση ενάντια στους Τούρκους. Γεννήθηκε το 1774 στο χωριό Γιαννωτά, στις πλαγιές του Ολύμπου. Διακρίθηκε για την ηθική του και τα σωματικά του προσόντα. ο Νικοτσάρας με τους συνεργάτες του, κατέφυγε στις Σποράδες και έκανε πειρατικές επιδρομές στα παράλια για να αποδυναμώσει τον Αλή πασά. Το 1804, Όταν όλη η περιοχή, Έλληνες μαζί με τους Τούρκους, εναντιώθηκε στον Νικοτσάρα και τον επικήρυξαν εκείνος κατέφυγε στην Ύδρα, όπου ο Λάζαρος Κουντουριώτης, του απένειμε την υπηκοότητα της νεοϊδρυθείσας, Ιονίου Πολιτείας. Έγινε υπαρχηγός στον πειρατικό στόλο του Σταθά και πέτυχε καίρια πλήγματα κατά του τουρκικού στόλου στη Μακεδονία και στην Εύβοια. Τραυματίστηκε θανάσιμα από πυροβολισμό Τούρκων στην παραλία κοντά στο Λιτόχωρο, τον Ιούλιο του 1807. Ο Νικοτσάρας πέθανε στο καράβι του και ενταφιάστηκε στη Σκιάθο, κοντά στη Μονή της Ευαγγελίστριας, όπου υπάρχει και το λεγόμενο «ρέμα του Νικοτσάρα». Το όνομά του δόθηκε σε χωριό της Δράμας.
