★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Η «Αγέλαστος Πέτρα», σύμφωνα με την Ελληνική μυθολογία, είναι ο βράχος στην Ελευσίνα πάνω στον οποίο είχε καθίσει η Δήμητρα θρηνώντας για την Περσεφόνη την κόρη της, που την άρπαξε ο Πλούτωνας. Πρόκειται για τον μύθο που οδήγησε στα Ελευσίνια Μυστήρια τα οποία ήταν μια μυστηριακή τελετή που τελούνταν προς τιμή της Δήμητρας και της Περσεφόνης, ήταν δε η ιερότερη και πιο σεβαστή από όλες τις γιορτές της αρχαίας Ελλάδας. Μια και ο μύθος αυτός συγκινούσε και εξακολουθεί να συγκινεί τους Έλληνες: Η μάνα που χάνει το παιδί της από τον θεό του κάτω κόσμου, ο συμβολισμός του θανάτου, ο χειμώνας, η ανάσταση, δηλαδή η επιστροφή κάθε Άνοιξη που η Περσεφόνη επιστρέφει στην μητέρα της και η φύση ξαναγεννιέται.
 "Agelastos Petra", according to Greek mythology, is the rock in Eleusis on which Demeter had sat mourning for Persephone her daughter, who was abducted by Pluto. This is the myth that led to the Eleusinian Mysteries which were a sacramental ceremony held in honor of Demeter and Persephone, and was the holiest and most revered of all the festivals of ancient Greece. Since this myth moved and still moves the Greeks: The mother who loses her child from the god of the underworld, the symbolism of death, winter, resurrection, that is, the return of every Spring that Persephone returns to her mother and nature is reborn.
