★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Οι Άγιοι Τιμόθεος και Μαύρα, γεννήθηκαν στη κωμόπολη Παναπέα στην Θηβαΐδα της Αιγύπτου. Ο Τιμόθεος ήταν αναγνώστης και κήρυκας του Ευαγγελίου στην Εκκλησία των Παναπέων και εκτελούσε τα ιερατικά του καθήκοντα με θερμότατο ζήλο και θαυμαστά αποτελέσματα.
Το γεγονός αυτό προξενούσε ζηλοφθονία στους ειδωλολάτρες, οι οποίοι τελικώς τον κατήγγειλαν στον αδίστακτο ειδωλολάτρη έπαρχο Αρριανό, είκοσι μόλις μέρες μετά τον γάμο του με την Αγία Μαύρα.
Οργισμένος ο Αρριανός υπέβαλε τον άγιο σε διάφορα βασανιστήρια, τα οποία ο Τιμόθεος υπέμεινε με παροιμιώδη υπομονή.
Στη συνέχεια κάλεσε και την σύζυγο του Τιμόθεου Μαύρα, η οποία με θάρρος ομολόγησε κι εκείνη την πίστη της στον Θεό. Τότε ο Αρριανός διέταξε τον άγριο βασανισμό της Αγίας, η οποία καθ’ όλη τη διάρκεια των μαρτυρίων έψαλλε.
Παρ’ όλα αυτά, ο Αρριανός δεν σταμάτησε και διέταξε να σταυρώσουν και τους δυο Αγίους.
Μετά από εννιά μέρες παρέδωσαν και οι δύο την ψυχή τους στον Κύριο και έτσι το Άγιο ζεύγος συγκαταλέχθηκε στην ιερώνυμη φάλαγγα των μαρτύρων της Εκκλησίας μας, τους οποίους τιμά στις 3 Μαΐου.
Η Αγία Μεγαλομάρτυς Μαύρα από το 1331 μ.Χ. θεωρείται και τιμάται ως πολιούχος της πόλης της Λευκάδας, η οποία παλιότερα ονομαζόταν.
Saints Timothy and Mavra were born in the town of Panapea in Thivaida, Egypt. Timothy was a reader and preacher of the Gospel in the Church of the Panapies and performed his priestly duties with the utmost zeal and miraculous results.
This caused jealousy among the pagans, who eventually denounced him to the ruthless pagan priest Arriano, twenty days after his marriage to Saint Mavra.
Angered by the Arrian, he subjected the saint to various tortures, which Timothy endured with proverbial patience.
Then she called Timothy Black's wife, who courageously confessed her faith in God. Then the Arianus ordered the savage torture of the Saint, who throughout the martyrdom praised.
Nevertheless, Arrian did not stop and ordered that both Saints be crucified.
After nine days, they both surrendered their souls to the Lord, and so the Holy Couple was counted among the holy phalanx of the martyrs of our Church, whom they honor on May 3.
Agia Megalomartis Mavra from 1331 AD is considered and honored as the patron saint of the city of Lefkada, which was formerly called.
