About Allouche Βenias Gallery

George Tourlas (b.1979) lives and works in Athens, Greece. In his creative practice he combines different mediums such as acrylics, charcoal and colored pencils on paper. He also often includes digital design, collage, sculpture and silkscreen printing in his interpretations of the human body. In his work, macabre and grotesque portraits are depicted in a deconstructed and disfigured state; scarecrow-like people with mutant anatomies and parasite-infected skin. Disoriented caricatures of zombified figures emerge through unpredictable combinations of various elements. Internal organs are being watched, while they merge with external anatomical features. Fragments of well-groomed hair, polished nails, decaying flesh, bodily fluids and bowels, broken bones, crustaceans, horns and tentacles assemble constructs of exquisite corpse drawings. The portrait of a familiar face now becomes a monstrous apotropaic facade, an uncanny ridiculous mask that will not conceal or camouflage, but only further expose. Deriving from the ecology of fear, he interrelates social structures with the biological dynamics of the predator-prey-parasite system. George Tourlas combines elements from the body horror genre and creates images where the lines between desire, pleasure and disgust are blurred. Welcome to the worst nightmare of all, reality.

Επισκέφτηκα την Allouche-Benias Gallery με αφορμή την έκθεση με τίτλο: Come in, Get out του εικαστικού Χάρη Βλάχου.
I visited the Allouche-Benias Gallery on the occasion of the exhibition entitled: Come in, Get out by the artist Haris Vlachos. I had not visited this Gallery since its inception in 2018. It is housed in the imposing Deligiorgi Palace on the corner of Akadimias and Kanari where the Greek Film Archive used to be housed and I was lucky enough to enjoy several films as a student. The restoration of the building is excellent and its use as an exhibition space is the best that could happen to this architectural diamond by Ernst Moritz Theodor Ziller. Congratulations to Ch. Vlachos for his excellent artistic effort. Personally, I think it is very promising and I hope that in the future we will have the opportunity to enjoy its development.

Historic building in the center of Athens, Megaro Deligiorgi. Former Film Library and now Art Gallery. A unique combination of a classical building with an exhibition of modern art. It was worth visiting the framework of Open House Athens 2022.

A stunning building (Deligeorgi mansion) with great history that was built on 1880 by architect Ernst Ziller. The building style is a lovely combination of Neoclassical and Renaissance. Eric Allouche who owns a famous art gallery in New York in cooperation with George Benias have created this fascinating place. There are two floors and a basement that hosts the artworks. Every exhibition inauguration is a very nice event. Highly recommended place even for non contemporary art lovers.
