Μετά το θάνατό του, έγινε θρυλική μορφή της ελληνικήςλαϊκής παράδοσης ως ο "Μαρμαρωμένος Βασιλιάς" που θα ξυπνήσει και θα ανακτήσει την αυτοκρατορία και την Κωνσταντινούπολη από τους Οθωμανούς. Ο θάνατός του σηματοδότησε το τέλος της Ρωμαϊκής Αυτοκρατορίας, η οποία είχε συνεχιστεί στην Ανατολή για 977 χρόνια μετά την πτώση της Δυτικής Ρωμαϊκής Αυτοκρατορίας.
 Constantine Dragasius Paleologos (February 8, 1405 - May 29, 1453) was the last Byzantine emperor, as a member of the Paleologian dynasty, from 1449 until his death during the Conquest of Constantinople (1453). After his death, he became a legendary figure in Greek folk tradition as the "Marble King" who would awaken and recover the empire and Constantinople from the Ottomans. His death marked the end of the Roman Empire, which had continued in the East for 977 years after the fall of the Western Roman Empire.
