Φλώρινας, σε μικρή απόσταση από το Αμύνταιο στη δυτική όχθη της λίμνης των Πετρών. Η ελληνιστική πόλη των Πετρών βρισκόταν κατά την αρχαιότητα στα όρια του αρχαίου διαμερίσματος της Εορδαίας, στα σύνορα με τη Λυγκηστίδα, δηλαδή μεταξύ Άνω και Κάτω Μακεδονίας. Χτισμένη σε στρατηγική θέση, πάνω στα άνδηρα ενός τραπεζιόσχημου λόφου ύψους 720 μ., ο οποίος δεσπόζει πάνω από τη λίμνη των Πετρών και την εύφορη πεδιάδα. Κατά την περίοδο ακμής της πόλης, τον 2ο αι π. Χ. η απλή αγροτική οικονομία αλλάζει καθώς ο οικισμός αποκτά αστικό χαρακτήρα, ενώ διακρίνεται από υψηλό βιοτικό επίπεδο. Στην πόλη λειτουργούν εργαστήρια κεραμικής, κοροπλαστικής και μεταλλοτεχνίας, όπως μαρτυρούν τμήματα μητρών ανάγλυφων αγγείων και ειδωλίων που βρέθηκαν κατά την ανασκαφική έρευνα. Έτσι, έχοντας τον έλεγχο της Εγνατίας για την περιοχή, είναι πλέον ένα αξιόλογο εμπορικό κέντρο που συναλλάσσεται με πολλές πόλεις του ελλαδικού χώρου. Ο οικισμός καταστράφηκε και εγκαταλείφθηκε στα μέσα του 1ου αι. π. Χ. εποχή της εμφύλιας διαμάχης των Ρωμαίων. The archeological site of Petra Florina The Archaeological site of Petra is located in the northeastern part of N. Florina, a short distance from Amynteo on the west bank of Lake Petra. The Hellenistic city of Petra was in antiquity on the borders of the ancient part of Eordea, on the border with Lygistida, that is, between Upper and Lower Macedonia. Built in a strategic position, on the slopes of a trapezoidal hill 720 m high, which dominates the lake of Petra and the fertile plain. During the period of prosperity of the city, in the 2nd century BC the simple agricultural economy changes as the settlement acquires an urban character, while it is distinguished by a high standard of living. There are workshops in the city of pottery, choroplasty and metalwork, as evidenced by sections of matrices of relief vessels and figurines found during the excavation. Thus, having the control of Egnatia for the region, it is now a remarkable shopping center that trades with many cities in Greece. The settlement was destroyed and abandoned in the middle of the 1st c. BC era of Roman civil strife.
