N	Nicki Barker on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Glorious Mystras - a beautiful and atmospheric place. Best to park at the Fortress Gate and scramble up to the citadel first. Then you can wander down to all the best sites. Parking is much easier up here too. Be warned - no toilets at the upper entrance though. You can easily spend half a day here. 12 euros entry - very good value - and they will want to see your vaccine passport.
C	Christin Robben on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Impressive historic site that is being well maintained and surrounded by a beautiful landscape - definitely worth the visit if you are traveling through the Peloponnese. There is an upper and a lower parking lot, we suggest starting and the top and doing all the sites there, and then driving down to the lower parking (at the main entrance) and doing the sites there. You use the same ticket which you can buy at both the upper or lower parking. This will spare you the hilly walk :)
M	Mermadone on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Disneyland of ruins! Spent 3 hours doing every path and the castle. 12 euros per adult to enter. 2 parking locations. Extremely beautiful hill side with rock ruins from Byzantine era. There's nothing really big to see in Sparta itself, but this is just 6 kilometers/4 miles from the town. Bus doesn't go too often. Recommend going in the morning. You can fill up your water bottle at a spigot south of the entrance, about 30-40 meters, hot to look for it near the big open area. The church with the nuns also had a spigot. IMO, St. Nikolas church is the best. Great restaurant at base: Xenia.

D	Dave Osen on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This medieval town is high in the mountains near Sparti. It has several churches, a monastery, a palace, and many other buildings. The paths are very steep and uneven, but exceptionally well maintained. The views are amazing.

Wear shoes that you are comfortable to hike with so you can climb on the old fortresses and monasteries. You buy one ticket and you have access to the museum the Castle and the monastery. TIP: A must see when in the area.

Sadly, the palace was closed "for construction" which is the main place to visit in my mind (construction and repair of monuments seems to take decades in Greece). The staff in the ticket boxes were super helpful. Recommend driving to the top to see the fortress and then relocate to the bottom carpark to explore the city.

If you enjoy history, hiking, and breathtaking views, you should stop here. Bring some good shoes for walking on steep trails and slippery rocks. Plus, I heard there are snakes.
