Closed on the 2nd of May but only announced on paper at the gate. Apparently we heard later in the village there were 2 aggressive mother boars protection their offspring and therefore the park was closed today. Hopefully reopens on Wednesday since they close every Tuesday.

Stagira was founded in 655 BC. by Ionian settlers from the island of Andros, and soon after that colonists from Chalcis settled there. The ancient city was located about a kilometre from the village of Olympiada. Strabo in his "Geography" places it south of Acanthus and says that opposite it is the small island of Kapros. The first excavations in Stagira began in the late 1960s and continue to this day. In 1970 the fortress of Stagira was declared a cultural monument. Unfortunately, there is not much to see and the road to the fortress is not in good condition. The place has a beautiful view!

Must see. For full experience be ready to read something about it before you start or ask local friendly guides. There are info boards all over the site as well. Free of charge. Well known as birth place of famous philosopher Aristotle. Give it a chance as it is the place of great inspiration. Majority of the site is within the woods so summer heat should not be the obstacle.
