Το τρόπαιο στήθηκε, όπως ήταν η συνήθεια, στο πεδίο της μάχης των Λεύκτρων το 371 π.Χ. από τους Θηβαίους με στρατηγό τον Επαμεινώνδα μετά τη νίκη τους εναντίον των Λακεδαιμονίων. Από ένα αρχαίο βοιωτικό νόμισμα πληροφορούμαστε για τη μορφή των τροπαίων: πάνω σε ένα στύλο στερεωνόταν μία πανοπλία από τα όπλα που αφαιρέθηκαν από τους ηττημένους αντιπάλους.
Διατηρείται το λίθινο κυλινδρικό βάθρο του μνημείου, το οποίο αναστηλώθηκε στο μέρος που βρέθηκε κατά το μεγαλύτερο τμήμα του. Το ύψος του βάθρου είναι υποθετικό. Επιστέφεται από διάζωμα τριγλύφων και μετοπών και σειρά λίθινων ανάγλυφων ασπίδων. Πάνω στο βάθρο ήταν στημένο το κυρίως τρόπαιο.
Το 1958 ο αρχιτέκτων-αρχαιολόγος Αν. Ορλάνδος πραγματοποίησε ανασκαφή στη θέση Μάρμαρα Λεύκτρων και εντόπισε τμήματα από το βάθρο του τροπαίου (τρίγλυφα και μετόπες και λίθινες ανάγλυφες ασπίδες).
Ο Αν.Ορλάνδος αναστήλωσε επίσης το μνημείο στη σημερινή του μορφή. Μετά την αναστήλωσή του βρέθηκε μία ακόμα λίθινη ασπίδα και τμήμα τριγλύφου σε αγρό της περιοχής Λεύκτρων.
 The trophy of the battle of Lefktra
The trophy was set, as was the custom, on the battlefield of Lefktra in 371 BC. from the Thebans with general Epameinondas after their victory against the Lacedaemonians. From an ancient Boeotian coin we learn about the form of the trophies: on a pole was fastened an armor from the weapons removed from the defeated opponents.
The stone cylindrical pedestal of the monument is preserved, which was restored in the place where it was found for the most part. The height of the pedestal is hypothetical. It is returned by a decoration of triglyphs and metopes and a series of stone embossed shields. The main trophy was set on the podium.
In 1958, the architect-archaeologist East Orlandos carried out an excavation at the site of Marmara Lefktron and located parts of the trophy pedestal (triglyphs and metopes and stone relief shields).
New Orleans also restored the monument to its present form. After its restoration, another stone shield and part of a triglyph were found in a field in the area of Lefktra.
