I	Ilona Toots on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Wow! It is a cave-inside-the-hill kind of a hotel that dates back hundreds of years, but renovated from the end of last century. They offer organic self-made breakfast, products, cool cottages with authentic details (petroleum lamps for example) and the most amazing windy views. Be prepared to take many steps and reconnect with nature to the bone. There is a path to the town, 15 min and a gorge to explore (1,5h one way).
R	Rory Barr on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A charming getaway nestled in the rolling hills of southern Crete. With houses built in traditional style and only basic updates for running water, refrigeration an simple lighting. On cold nights you will find yourself reading by lamplight in front of a roaring fire as you have left the electricity and the WiFi back in the breakfast area. The food served here is excellent, made with love and fresh island ingredients. My first introduction to dakos which I have carefully re-created many times since leaving. The cats are charming but don't let them into your suite. Go for a long hike to see the gorge or visit Myrto's shop back in town. Definitely a rustic approach in a busy world where we all need some time to slow down and relax. A car is a must-have.
N	Nicholas Cotter on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Lovely out of the way location a short 15 minute walk to the beach and handy for exploring Pefki Gorge. Lovely breakfasts and friendly, helpful staff. Also some adorable cats.
J	Justin Wimpey on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Charmingly rustic throwback to the olden days. Magically restored rooms set into thick rockwork make for great cave like dwellings to relax in. Great little shaded terraces as well. Breakfast is delicious and ample, served by wonderful hosts. Accommodations do lack modern electricity, so bring a battery bank for devices, and maybe a small electric camping lantern; they have lights in the bathrooms, and small ones near the beds, but you might want more than the oil burning lamps and candles provide. Also bring some bug repellent, the screens don't keep all the bugs out at night. It was a great place to fall asleep with the wind rushing down the gorge at night, particularly after a day of hiking. Can't wait to go back!

Has good access to the local town on the seafront which was just a 10min walk away along a nice path/road. Really nice beach there and plenty of places to eat.

One for the lovers of simplicity, nature and winding down. You will find the luxury of disconnecting from the hustle and hectic rhythms of modern life. And of reconnecting to a life close to nature.
l	la cymbalista on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ we have been there in 2016 and 2017. our favorite place in crete. feels like a pueblo village. perfect combination of ecology and holidays. warning: this is not for the luxory freaks. no pool, no electricity in the rooms, no full service slaves. if you need this, better choose the "white river cottages" in the neighborhood. but here in a.p. you get helpfull staff, lovely people and - if you feed them - lots of cats. we are on our way to spend another week at aspros potamos. :-)
