TLDR: Pros: Learned a few Greek recipes Instructor was kind Minimal effort needed to cook the dishes Small group size of 6 in a nice restaurant Cons: Did not learn anything new related to cooking Weren't given a chef knife, only had a small paring knife Instructor didn't seem to care whether we used the same unwashed equipment that was used to cut raw meat to cut other ingredients that wouldn't be cooked Did no cooking at all Only prepped the dishes Minimal amount of work and responsibility was given to us, the instructor and restaurant chefs did just about everything else that the recipe required Food lacked a lot of flavor A lot of the leftovers were thrown away at the end, and very little was put in our to go boxes Detailed Review: When I first came to the cooking class, I was disappointed to learn we weren't going to cook our food and that we would have to use a small plastic paring knife instead of a chef's knife. Nevertheless, I was optimistic. Our instructor, Anaise, taught us some new Greek recipes and about Athens, but I didn't learn anything else (ie. cooking and prepping techniques). The entire class composed of just being told to prep vegetables (assuming we already knew how, since no instructions were given on the best way to prep any of the ingredients) and watching the instructor do the rest. I was really hoping to be able to cook (this is a cooking class after all), but we weren't given any opportunities to do so, since the chefs at the restaurant cooked our we prepped them. I just feel like that defeated the entire purpose of a cooking class, since most of us knew how to prep vegetables and wanted to learn how to cook the dishes. After a few hours of cutting vegetables and spices and watching our instructor do the majority of the work, our cooked dishes were seved. Overall, it tasted ok but lacked much needed flavor. At the end, we were given some take home boxes with leftovers, but there was still a lot of food leftover that I was willing to bring back but thrown away before I could say anything. I'm really not sure who this class is best for, since experienced cooks would already know how to do everything we did in this class and wouldn't learn anything new, while beginners may be left behind since the basic cooking techniques were not taught. Although I enjoyed this class, I just wish I saved my money by cooking the dishes on my own using online recipes. I probably would've learned more from that than what I learned from this class.
