★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Wide range of things to do in the province. Though beaches around are amazing and worth to see (Balos, Elafonisi, Falaserna, Agia Marina) it is highly recommended (if one eishes to get in real touch with Cretan culture, cuisine and history) to visit the hinterland, full of scents (oranges, olives, palmtrees, avocados, flowers everywhere) mountains, domestic goats climbing, tiny and very hospitable villages. The Gorges of Therisso is a good alternative to the ones that do not dare to try the Samaria ones.
It is an open secret that food is very good too as it is all around Greece.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful old town..lively..loads of fish restaurants on harbour.. Lots of interesting shops if you explore the streets..the horse and trap rides from the harbour that run through the streets are fun for 20 euros..well worth a visit.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful old port, lovely Venetian architecture. The area around the harbour is full of restaurants, so plenty of choice for everyone. The market is full of aromatic scents from all the wild herbs and spices sold there. It has to be experienced to get the full effect. Words cannot do it justice.
