★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Ο Άγιος Ιερόθεος ήταν πλατωνικός φιλόσοφος και ένας από τα εννέα μέλη του Συμβουλίου της Γερουσίας του Αρείου Πάγου.
Αφού δέχθηκε και διδάχθηκε την πίστη του Χριστού από τον Απόστολο Παύλο, χειροτονήθηκε πρώτος επίσκοπος Αθηνών. Μαθητής του υπήρξε ο Άγιος Διονύσιος ο Αρεοπαγίτης, ο οποίος στα συγγράμματά του πλέκει εγκώμια για τον δάσκαλό του.
Εκοιμήθη εν ειρήνη σε βαθιά γεράματα, μετά από πολύχρονη ποιμαντική και συγγραφική δραστηριότητα. Η τίμια κάρα του φυλάσσεται στο ομώνυμο μοναστήρι στα Μέγαρα Αττικής. Επίσης λείψανά του σώζονται στο Άγιον Όρος (Ι. Μ. Αγ. Παύλου) καθώς και στο παρεκκλήσιο του Αγίου Ανδρέα (Αρχιεπισκοπή Αθηνών).
Η μνήμη του Αγίου Ιεροθέου του Επισκόπου Αθηνών, τιμάται από την Εκκλησία μας στις 4 Οκτωβρίου.
Saint Hierotheos was a Platonic philosopher and one of the nine members of the Supreme Council of the Senate.
After receiving and teaching the faith of Christ by the Apostle Paul, he was ordained the first bishop of Athens. His student was Saint Dionysios the Areopagite, who in his writings praises his teacher.
He slept in peace in old age, after many years of pastoral and writing activity. His honest cart is kept in the homonymous monastery in Megara, Attica. His remains are also preserved on Mount Athos (St. Paul) and in the chapel of St. Andrew (Archbishopric of Athens).
The memory of Saint Hierotheos of the Bishop of Athens is honored by our Church on October 4.
