O	OMICRON on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Ο ναός χτίστηκε το δεύτερο μισό του 14ου αιώνα λίγο πριν τη κατάληψη της Πόλης από τους Οθωμανούς και αφιερώνεται αρχικά στο Χριστό Σοφίας και λόγο Θεού. Η ονομασία διατηρείται μέχρι τον 17ο αιώνα και κατόπιν μετονομάζεται σε ναό Κοιμήσεως της Θεοτόκου. Ο ναός της Παλαιάς Μητρόπολης Έδεσσας αποτελεί τρίκλιτη βασιλική με ξύλινη στέγη και στο εσωτερικό ξεχωρίζει ο επισκοπικός θρόνος, το ξυλόγλυπτο τέμπλο και οι κίονες που προέρχονται πιθανότατα από παλαιότερο ναό. The temple was built in the second half of the 14th century shortly before the Ottomans occupied the City and was originally dedicated to Christ Sophia and the word of God. The name is preserved until the 17th century and then renamed to the Church of the Assumption. The temple of the Old Cathedral of Edessa is a basilica with a wooden roof and inside stands the throne, the wooden temple and columns probably derived from an older church.

Θεωρώ πως είναι τουλάχιστον λυπηρό να στερείται η επίσκεψη ενός Ιερού χώρου σε έναν πιστό.. I had a great desire to visit the church but unfortunately the entrance is not allowed except with a certificate .. I think it is at least sad to be deprived of a visit to a Holy place to a believer ..
