C	C.A.V. KLAOUDATOS on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Συνοικία Βαρόσι Έδεσσας Στα αρχαία χρόνια η Έδεσσα ήταν οχυρωμένη σε δύο επίπεδα. Στην κάτω πόλη (Λόγγος) και την ακρόπολη. Κατά τους βυζαντινούς χρόνους η κάτω πόλη παράκμαζε και ο οικισμός οργανώνεται στην άνω πόλη-σημερινή θέση. Μετά την άλωση από τους Τούρκους, το 1389, ο οικισμός επεκτείνεται έξω από τα τείχη δημιουργώντας νέες συνοικίες κυρίως αλλόθρησκες, ενώ οι χριστιανοί παραμένουν μέσα και γύρω από τον αρχαιότερο πυρήνα σε τρεις μεγάλες συνοικίες. Το Βαρόσι (που σημαίνει οχυρό), είναι η πρώτη χριστιανική συνοικία που δημιουργήθηκε ως εξέλιξη του βυζαντινού οικισμού που αναπτύχθηκε στο χώρο της ακρόπολης και της αρχαίας πόλης. Το 1944 οι Γερμανοί έκαψαν το μεγαλύτερο μέρος της συνοικίας επειδή λόγω της θέσης της χρησίμευε ως κέντρο τω αντιστασιακών. Το 1983 κηρύχθηκε παραδοσιακός οικισμός ενώ πρόσφατα έχει γίνει αποκατάσταση τω σπιτιών η οποία στηρίχθηκε στην μελέτη ανάπλασης του Βαροσίου, η οποία πήρε το 1ο βραβείο μεταξύ άλλων μελετών της Ε.Ε. Τα σπίτια που σώζονται στον Βαρόσι χρονολογούνται στον 19ο αιώνα και αποτελούν χαρακτηριστικό δείγμα της παραδοσιακής μακεδονίτικης αρχιτεκτονικής. Οι περισσότερες κατοικίες είναι λαϊκές υπάρχουν όμως και αρχοντικά. Συνήθως είναι διώροφα κτίσματα με προεξοχές ανοιχτό καλυπτόμενο εξώστη και κεραμοσκεπή. Στο εσωτερικό τους διαθέτουν αυλή, ενώ γύρω από τις αυλές οργανώνονται οι ημιυπαίθριοι χώροι, τα χαγιάτια. Αξιόλογα αρχοντικά στο Βαρόσι που πρέπει να αναφερθούν είναι η οικία Γιούσμη, όπου στο εσωτερικό του σπιτιού υπάρχει σηροτροφείο (κουκουλώνας), το αρχοντικό Βαλάσα, που στο εσωτερικό του υπάρχει ιδιωτικό παρεκκλήσι, καθώς και η οικία Τσάμη, όπου έχει εσωτερικό W.C. Varosi District of Edessa In ancient times Edessa was fortified on two levels. In the lower city (Longos) and the citadel. During the Byzantine times the lower city was declining and the settlement is organized in the upper city-present position. After the conquest by the Turks, in 1389, the settlement expands outside the walls creating new neighborhoods mainly non-religious, while Christians remain in and around the ancient core in three large neighborhoods. Varosi (meaning fortress), is the first Christian district that was created as an evolution of the Byzantine settlement that developed in the area of the citadel and the ancient city. In 1944 the Germans burned most of the district because of its location it served as a resistance center. In 1983 it was declared a traditional settlement, while recently the houses have been restored, which was based on the renovation study of Varosi, which won the 1st prize among other EU studies. The houses that survive in Varosi date back to the 19th century and are a typical example of traditional Macedonian architecture. Most houses are popular but there are also mansions. They are usually two-storey buildings with protrusions open covered balcony and tiled roof. Inside they have a courtyard, while around the courtyards are organized the semi-outdoor spaces, the loggias. Remarkable mansions in Varosi that should be mentioned are the house of Yousmi, where inside the house there is a sericulture (hood), the mansion Valasa, inside which there is a private chapel, as well as the house of Tsami, where it has an internal W.C.
