★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nipsas Dam (known also as Διυλιστήριο - Φράγμα) was built at the first few years after 2000, in order to solve the problem of the water supply in the area of the Municipality of Alexandroupolis.
The dam is located 35 km northeast to Alexandroupolis, and 10 km north to Nipsa,
in a mountainous area.
The construction of the dam (that was made under the responsibility of D.E.Y.A.A.) created Nipsas reservoir (Nipsas artificial lake), a beautiful lake that winds through picturesque hills. The Dam height is 43 m and the length is 212 m and arriving there requires an unpleasant ride on a dirt road.
