Το καλοκαίρι του 2013 ένα παιδί χάνει τη ζωή του επειδή δεν έχει εισιτήριο. Πρόκειται για το Θανάση Καναούτη, 19 ετών. Το τραγικό περιστατικό συνέβη την Τρίτη 13 Αυγούστου λίγο πριν από τις 11 το βράδυ. Το τρόλεϊ, στο οποίο επέβαινε ο άτυχος Θανάσης, περνούσε την οδό Παναγή Τσαλδάρη, στο ύψος του αριθμού 16, στο Περιστέρι. Ένας ελεγκτής ανέλαβε δράση και, όταν βρέθηκε πρόσωπο με πρόσωπο με τον 19χρόνο, του ζήτησε να κατέβουν μαζί στο τέλος της διαδρομής για να του κόψει πρόστιμο. Οι πρώτες πληροφορίες το πρωί της Τετάρτης ανέφεραν πως ο Θανάσης πάτησε το «μπουτόν» της εξόδου έκτακτης ανάγκης στο όχημα και έπειτα από συμπλοκή με τον ελεγκτή «πήδησε» έξω από το όχημα για να αποφύγει το πρόστιμο, με αποτέλεσμα να τραυματιστεί σοβαρά στο κεφάλι. Αυτή ήταν η πρώτη εκδοχή για το μοιραίο περιστατικό. Αμέσως ο 19χρονος μεταφέρθηκε στο «Αγία Όλγα» και στη συνέχεια στο «Γ. Γεννηματάς», όμως τα ξημερώματα της Τετάρτης εξέπνευσε. Η δεύτερη εκδοχή αναφέρει πως ο Θανάσης διαπληκτίστηκε με τον ελεγκτή μετά την άρνησή του να κατέβει μαζί του, με τους γονείς του θύματος να αναφέρουν πως πρόκειται για ανθρωποκτονία με ενδεχόμενο δόλο.
