Βιογραφία Ο Άγιος Μεγαλομάρτυς Χριστόφορος καταγόταν από ημιβάρβαρη φυλή και ονομαζόταν Ρεμπρόβος, που σημαίνει αδόκιμος, αποδοκιμασμένος, κολασμένος. Πιθανότατα έζησε κατά τους χρόνους του αυτοκράτορα Δεκίου (249 - 251 μ.Χ.), όταν στην Αντιόχεια Επίσκοπος ήταν ο Άγιος Ιερομάρτυς Βαβύλας. Ο Άγιος ως προς την εξωτερική εμφάνιση ήταν τόσο πολύ άσχημος, γι' αυτό και αποκαλείτο «κυνοπρόσωπος». Η μεταστροφή του στον Χριστό έγινε με τρόπο θαυμαστό. Συνελήφθη αιχμάλωτος σε μάχη, που διεξήγαγε το έθνος του με τα Ρωμαϊκά αυτοκρατορικά στρατεύματα. Κατατάγηκε στις Ρωμαϊκές λεγεώνες και πολέμησε κατά των Περσών, επί Γορδίου και Φιλίππου. Όταν ήταν ακόμη κατειχούμενος, για να ευχαριστήσει τον Χριστό, εγκαταστάθηκε σε επικίνδυνη δίοδο ποταμού και μετέφερε δωρεάν επί των ώμων του εκείνους που επιθυμούσαν να διέλθουν τον ποταμό. Μια μέρα παρουσιάσθηκε προς αυτόν μικρό παιδί, το οποίο τον παρακάλεσε να τον περάσει στην απέναντι όχθη. Ο Ρεμπρόβος πρόθυμα το έθεσε επί των ώμων του και στηριζόμενος επί της ράβδου του εισήλθε στον ποταμό. Όσο όμως προχωρούσε, τόσο το βάρος του παιδιού αυξανόταν, ώστε με μεγάλο κόπο κατόρθωσε να φθάσει στην απέναντι όχθη. Μόλις έφθασε στον προορισμό του, κατάκοπος είπε στο παιδί ότι και όλο τον κόσμο να σήκωνε δεν θα ήταν τόσο βαρύς. Το παιδί του απάντησε: «Μην απορείς, διότι δεν μετέφερες μόνο τον κόσμο όλο, αλλά και τον πλάσαντα αυτόν. Είμαι Εκείνος στην υπηρεσία του Οποίου έθεσες τις δυνάμεις σου και σε απόδειξη αυτού φύτεψε το ραβδί σου και αύριο θα έχει βλαστήσει», και αμέσως εξαφανίσθηκε. Ο Ρεμπρόβος φύτεψε την ράβδο και την επομένη την βρήκε πράγματι να έχει βλαστήσει. Μετά το περιστατικό αυτό βαπτίσθηκε Χριστιανός από τον Άγιο Ιερομάρτυρα Βαβύλα, ο οποίος τον μετονόμασε σε Χριστόφορο. Η άκτιστη θεία Χάρη, που έλαβε την ώρα του βαπτίσματος και του Χρίσματος, μεταμόρφωσε όλη του την ύπαρξη. Και αυτή ακόμα η δύσμορφη όψη του φαινόταν φωτεινότερη και ομορφότερη. Στην Ορθόδοξη αγιογραφία ο Άγιος εικονίζεται να μεταφέρει στον ώμο του τον Χριστό. Εξ' αφορμής ίσως του γεγονότος αυτού θεωρείται προστάτης των οδηγών και στο Μικρόν Ευχολόγιον και συγκεκριμένα στην Ακολουθία «επί ευλογήσει νέου οχήματος» υπάρχει, πρώτο στη σειρά, το απολυτίκιό του. ... Ο Άγιος Χριστόφορος υποβλήθηκε σε φρικτά βασανιστήρια και τέλος υπέστη τον δι' αποκεφαλισμού θάνατο το 251 μ.Χ. It celebrates May 9. But as he progressed, the child's weight increased, so much so that he managed to reach the opposite bank. As soon as he arrived at his destination, he told the child that even if the whole world got up, it would not be so heavy. The child replied: "Don't be surprised, because you not only carried the whole world, but also this creator. I am the One in whose service you have set your strength, and as proof of this you have planted your staff, and tomorrow it will have sprouted, ”and it immediately disappeared. Rebrovos planted the rod and the next day he actually found it sprouting. After this incident, a Christian was baptized by St. Hieromartyr Babylon, who renamed him Christopher. The uncreated divine Grace, which received the time of baptism and Christ, transformed its entire existence. And even this ugly look seemed brighter and more beautiful. In Orthodox hagiography, the Saint is depicted carrying Christ on his shoulder.
