Saint Mercury .... A beautiful place 40 minutes from Athens. The little church used to have carpets and mattresses inside for the visitor who decided or was forced to spend the night. Inside was much more picturesque than it is now. There was no electricity, only water from a tap a few meters to the left of the entrance. I think that the renovation that took place was not for good. All its beauty was its antiquity inside and out. To the right of the entrance at five meters one could light a fire to cook or just for warmth. This place has changed a lot in the last 20 years .... Imagine that once walking up from the train station, you came across barbed wire on the left with minefield warning signs. At a distance of a few hundred meters and mainly from the side of the church sanctuary and towards the mountain, there are small buildings, probably military, that are not visible on the map. Generally the area has a difference ..... The place is amazing all year round. She wants attention with the rains and especially with the snow. Usually the road is closed by fallen trees. Very close to the church opposite it and going down you meet a stream that once ended in a small port at 300 meters. It is not visible from the street. It is on the left side of the road to the station and about 20 meters from it. It is very worth the place for a walk but now which one I would not advise you to spend the night ...
