Ο ναός της Κοιμήσεως Θεοτόκου είναι δισυπόστατος, αφιερωμένος συγχρόνως στην Παναγία και στον Άγιο Δημήτριο. Αυτό προκύπτει από την ύπαρξη και δεύτερης Αγίας Τράπεζας στο Ιερό, αλλά και από το ότι στη γιορτή του Αγίου Δημητρίου, γινόταν μονοκκλησία στο ναό της «Παναγίας».
Η ανέγερση του Ι.Ν. χρονολογείται το 1865 και ανήκει στον τύπο της τρίκλιτης βασιλικής. Σε γενικές γραμμές αντιγράφει τον Ι.Ν. του Αγίου Γεωργίου που ήταν προγενέστερος.
Η σοβαρότερη επέμβαση στο Ναό έγινε μετά το σεισμό του 1978 και αλλοιώθηκε ολοκληρωτικά η εξωτερική μορφή ενός από τα πιο αξιόλογα μεταβυζαντινά μνημεία του τόπου.
