The Monastery is one of the must-see for anyone who is going to visit Messinia. It is on Proti Island to Marathopoli. Just look at any photo of the area to verify that it is a true sight to behold.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Πρόκειται για μοναστήρι στης Κοίμησης της Θεοτόκου της Γοργοπηγής. Η ομώνυμη εικόνα της Παναγίας βρέθηκε στα βράχια το 1984 στο σημείο όπου είναι κτισμένο το μικρό εκκλησάκι. Λίγο παραπέρα υπάρχει μια σπηλιά όπου έρχονται φώκιες μονάχους μονάχους. Ακόμα παραπέρα παρατηρώντας κανείς το νησί βλέπει έναν βράχο σε μορφή προβοσκίδας ελέφαντα.
It is a monastery in the Assumption of the Virgin Mary of Gorgopigi. The homonymous icon of Virgin Mary was found on the rocks in 1984 at the site where the small church is built. A little further there is a cave where monk seals come. Still further observing the island sees a rock in the form of an elephant proboscis.
