Η αρχιτεκτονική του μορφή είναι σταυροειδής τρουλαίος με νάρθηκα και εξωνάρθηκα με καμπαναριό δυτικά. Εξωτερικά ο ναός εντυπωσιάζει με τον ενσωματωμένο πύργο στη ΒΑ γωνία, με παρεκκλήσι στον όροφό του. Οι μελετητές πιστεύουν ότι ο ναός ήταν καθολικό μοναστηριού. Εντυπωσιακές είναι οι πρόσφατα συντηρημένες τοιχογραφίες στο εσωτερικό του. Πολύ σημαντική αρχαιολογική μαρτυρία θεωρείται η μοναδική σωζόμενη απεικόνιση του Πατριάρχη Κωνσταντινουπόλεως Αρσενίου Αυτωρειανού (1254-1259 και 1261-1265). Σύμφωνα με επιγραφή το 1ο στρώμα τους χρονολογείται το έτος 1289/1290 κατά τη βασιλεία του Ανδρόνικου Κομνηνού του Παλαιολόγου με χορηγούς τον σεβαστό κυρ Μιχαήλ και τη σύζυγό του Ζωή. Στις 28 Ιουνίου 2014, στα Χρύσαφα στον βυζαντινό ναό της Παναγίας Χρυσαφίτισσας μεταφέρθηκε για προσκύνημα η θαυματουργή εικόνα της Ευρέσεως της Παναγίας Χρυσαφίτισσας που εδώ και 400 χρόνια φυλάσσεται στο ναό της Χρυσαφίτισσας στο κάστρο της Μονεμβασίας. The Byzantine church of Panagia Chrysafitissa dates back to the 11th century. Its architectural form is a cruciform narthex with a bell tower exterior to the west. Externally the church is impressed with the built-in tower in the northeast corner, with a chapel on its floor. Scholars believe that the temple was a monastery cathedral. The newly preserved frescoes inside are impressive. Very important archaeological evidence is considered to be the only surviving depiction of the Patriarch of Constantinople Arsenios Athenians (1254-1259 and 1261-1265). According to the inscription, their first layer dates back to the year 1289/1290 during the reign of Andronicus Komninos of Palaiologos, sponsored by the respected Mr. Michael and his wife Zoe. On June 28, 2014, the miraculous icon of the Discovery of Our Lady of Chrysaphitissa was kept in the Byzantine church of Panagia Chrysafitissa at Chrysafa for a pilgrimage that has been kept in the church of Chrysaphitissa in the castle of Monemvasia for 400 years.
