On a Mediterranean Cruise, we took a one day tour of Crete which included Panagia Kera. Right at the entrance of the village of Krista, there is this byzantine church which has 700 year old frescoes depicting Biblical themes. It was a most memorable experience and highly recommended. The village of Krista is charming with a number of wonderful shops.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A hidden gem. This small, modest looking church hold a surprise when you enter through the low door. The entire inside is covered in colorful, well preserved 13th century frescoes, from floor to ceiling. Each fresco illustrates a different Bible story. We'll worth the two euros entry fee!
