J'enlève tout de même une étoile à ce lieu pas parce qu'il manquait de charme mais parce que nous avons passé beaucoup de temps pour le trouver et de ce fait, nous avons été fort retardés dans le programme très chargé de cette journée. En effet, cette toute petite église est vraiment perdue au milieu de nulle part. Par ailleurs, Google la nomme Panagia Kera mais le guide Michelin envoie ses lecteurs à Agios Eftykhios de Hromonastiri comme il dit (Chromonastiri est plus facile à trouver tout comme Chania plutôt que Hania!!). Mais je suis persuadé que Google et Michelin parle bien de la même église! En venant de la côte, il faut traverser tout le village de Chromonastiri, le dépasser et emprunter une piste caillouteuse mais carrossable pour se garer sur une aire de parking faite également de cailloux. Ensuite, on peut commencer à la chercher dans la végétation, prendre un sentier qui monte fort pour atteindre le sommet de la petite colline et elle apparaît enfin ! ? Plan en croix grecque avec une coupole, une seule nef et une seule abside : le minimum vital architectural si on peut dire mais un très bel exemple pour comprendre d'autres édifices beaucoup plus élaborés. Quelle déception en arrivant enfin à cet endroit de constater que l'église était fermée car elle vaut surtout le détour pour les fresques du 11ème s. qu'elle contient. En fait, non. La porte était fermée mais pas à clé et il faut un peu insister pour parvenir à l'ouvrir... Belle vue sur la côte et la région depuis ce lieu très sauvage. 09/29/2019. I still remove a star to this place not because it lacked charm but because we spent a lot of time to find it and because of this, we were very delayed in the busy schedule of this day. Indeed, this tiny church is really lost in the middle of nowhere. Moreover, Google names it Panagia Kera but the Michelin guide sends his readers to Agios Eftykhios Hromonastiri as he says (Chromonastiri is easier to find just like Chania rather than Hania !!). But I'm sure Google and Michelin are talking about the same church! Coming from the coast, you must cross the whole village of Chromonastiri, pass it and take a stony track but passable to park on a parking area also made of pebbles. Then we can start looking in the vegetation, take a path that goes up to reach the summit of the small hill and finally appears! ? Greek cross plan with a dome, a single nave and a single apse: the architectural vital minimum if you can say but a very good example to understand other buildings much more elaborate. What a disappointment finally arriving at this place to note that the church was closed because it is worth the detour for the frescoes of the 11th century. that it contains. Actually no. The door was closed but not locked and you have to insist a little bit to open it up ... Nice view of the coast and the region from this very wild place.

There was (at least in 2006) an incredible old, human faced olive tree at 30-50 meters distance from the front of the church, on the descending slope of a savage olive plantation. Hope they haven't cut it down. ... The photo of this olive tree is scanned over a genuine "classic" (not numerical) photo I've taken (I just covered my face on the photo, for confidential reasons). Enjoy !
