Best Restaurant in Greece

The thoroughly modern and classic restaurant is in a village near Heraklion named Skalia or Scalerea in the midst of olive groves and vineyards. The food and hospitality were exceptional. My wife and I had two versions of lamb, Minoan Lamb and simple roast lamb. Both were memorable for their clean and enjoyable flavors. For desert we ordered the baklava which was not what we were accustomed. It was not a stack of phyllo dough drowed with syrup: it was flaky, tender, sheets, layered with nuts and topped with honey and ice cream. The strong nutmeg, clove and allspice flavors felt like Christmas in the mouth. Exceptional. Thereafter, they brought out fresh fruit and a special type of dessert called "halva." It is semolina, honey and citrus peel with cinnamon. Unique, fragrant and enjoyable...and free. The local wine was good but not much different than what's available at home. Any visit to this region MUST include this restaurant.

Impressions were the same, still one of the best places to eat good food on Crete, this time we had the Minoan Lamb and Mosaka. The lamb, without a doubt was one of the tastes foods one can try. There was one small problem the Greek Salad was missing the barley rusks, which in my opinion made that salad one of the best on Crete. 2018 May Nice location, not too far from the main road, well designed and comfortable. Service and personnel are exceptionally friendly and welcoming. Food is great, mostly authentic cretan with some continental influences. We had 3 dishes, all were very good. If I would be close I would definitely eat there again. Toilets are clean and even has a baby changing room.

A	Angelique Ganser on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Located amongst the hills of Scalani, this gem of a restaurant is well-loved, not just by the tourists, but most especially the locals as well. Very friendly and helpful wait staff that did a great job in suggesting which options is better combined. The food was prepared in such an appetising and pleasing way. Everything tasted wonderfully fresh and delicious. Would definitely recommend this place.

J	Julien P on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ One of the best restaurant I went to in Greece. Reasonable prices and high quality cuisine. It was delightful from entrance to dessert. Being a huge fan of cheesecake, I recommend the one they make there! Also the beef with mashed potatoes was awesome.

A lady (probably the chef and owner) warmly greeted us and led us to a table in spite having arrived before open hours. Everything we ordered was good and would highly recommend. The menu is quite unique unlike all other places we've been to around Crete. The only weird moment was paying for the bill. After the usual greek hospitality of offering fruits after the meal, no one ever showed up for the bill. Had to go inside to ask for it. There was a small error but no one came for follow-up. Went in again, explained there's water added which we never got. The man signaled that he understood but still no follow-up. Had to go in for the 3rd time to pay. No one seemed attentive at this last bit.
R	R vdB on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We had the mushroom risotto and avocado salad as main course and the fennel pie and aubergine as starters. Everything tasted great and made of fresh ingredients. When you visit this place be adviced that google maps will not bring you to the correct address. Just drive 1 minute ahead to the crossing. It is more than worth it.
