Mixed feelings about this one. In someone's back yard now.

Crete has to decide: Tear it down, put a plaque at the street instead, or make this an actual site, renovated and put into historical context. Now it's guarded by a watch dog and only questionable people can be interested in it. Es ist einfach sehr traurig.

Visited 28 Oct 2021. Reinforcing *TWO key points* cited in previous reviews: 1) Monument access appears to cut through two private properties (but hard to tell boundaries). 2) There is a DOG HOUSE on stairs up to monument that you must walk past. Dog area is NOT fenced in. A very angry dog, not sure what kind but it's the fighting type, was chained to the dog house. I walked by on the way up then the way down. If that chain had broken, I'd have been attacked for sure. I urge the city to make this homeowner fence in the dog and not purposefully menace visitors. One day it will break free and attack a tourist, and that'll be really sad.

I am updating this post which I made 18 months ago. Incredibly there have been more than 100,000 views of the photos I placed on Google Maps. It gives me pride that I have helped so many people find this obscure but fascinating monument. For all you Germans and Greeks that will read this let me suggest that this place is the ideal location for a Grexit launch! Yesterday the British House of Commons rightly voted down the ridiculously one sided agreement our MP Theresa May negotiated with Michel “Barrier” Barnier. The Greeks want to leave too but are beholden to German banks unwilling to forgive debts that were made under false premises for the development of the Olympic facilities. Also, The annual desecration of this monument is a poignant reminder that the atrocities of the occupation of Crete have not been forgotten. — original post from 18 months ago. This is a desecrated monument. Interesting from a sociological perspective as the Germans are resented for their wealth, control of the euro and the atrocities of WW2

The memorial is still there... you can access it easily from the street... it's ashame it hasn't been restored... but it appears to be on private property..... If you follow goggle maps it takes you to the back of the memorial... The entrance to the Memorial is across the street from the BP Gas Station on Chanion....
