Στην παιδική του ηλικία έλαβε το προσωνύμιο το Καραϊσκάκι δηλαδή το άτυχο Καραϊσκόπουλο, λόγω της ορφάνιας του και της παραμέλησής του από τον πατέρα και τα αδέλφια του. Ο ίδιος υπέγραφε επίσημα Καραΐσκος όπως φαίνεται και στη σφραγίδα του του 1816.
His surname is karaiskos' humorous sob, brought by his father's father, Dimitrios Iskos or Karaiskos, Karas because he was black. [2] It is a compound word for Turkish kara (black) and the older family name Iskos. [3]
In his childhood he received the nickname Karaiskaki, that is, the unfortunate Karaiskopoulos, because of his orphanage and his neglect by his father and brothers. He officially signed Karaiskos as seen in the seal of 1816.
