Gold Sun - Gold Sun

So I debated and debated: so many flashy things on other menus, and Gold Sun is very basic: they know what they do well, they grill tasty meats, so they keep it simple and focused. So what to do? Other places offer Lamb Kleftiko.. Veal steak.. Octopus.. this was one of my last 2 days in Greece and (more importantly) my last day in Crete, so do I go traditional or roll the dice on something fancy? Well obviously since I’m writing this review I opted for Gold Sun. The lamb chops are plentiful, flavorful, perfectly cooked, and full of variety. You’re not just getting one type of chop, you’re getting a spectrum of lamb flavours. Absolutely delicious and delightful. Despite the wonderfully large quantity I ate them all. I have no regrets. Their tzatziki is also amazing. And the raki... I tried to buy a bottle but they bring it in from another village. After 14 days in Crete I’ve had a lot, a LOT of raki now, but this was the best, no question. Disclaimer: this is not to say that any of the other restaurants are lacking, I didn’t get to try any others as I only had one night here. That will change next time around as I would love to try some other places for comparison. What I can tell you is that you shouldn’t miss out on the perfect simplicity of Gold Sun, it’s what eating in Crete is all about.

Delicious no frills food and decent local red wine. Without a question the most authentic place in Agia Galini.

Nice, local, people and honest prices !

Wasn't satisfied at all, gyros was boring with little taste, hardly any spice. The staff was polite but didn't understand our order, we ordered 2 gyros pitas, they brought one and when I asked where mine was they made mine like the one of my friend which I specifically ordered differently. Maybe they had a bad day because else I wouldn't understand such a good rating.

Had the worst meat lunch in Crete. Used to be a very nice Gyros Pita place over seven years ago. Please try to serve good food again

Large portions, cheap prices. The Greek salad was fantastic. The souflaki chicken was hard/dry, not made well or overcooked or bad quality. Overall, not a bad place.. Good atmosphere.

Great traditional Greek restaurant where the locals go. Has lots of character and good atmosphere. Ordered the Lamb Chops with French Fries.. 6 lovely chops and crispy French Fries. Went to sleep happy ??

Such an outstanding place! The woman who was working was so sweet! Service was very good just like the food!
