Taverna Avli - Agia Galini

Best taverna i think I have tried in Greece. It’s very rare to find excellent service and food in one. Niko does an amazing job! Don’t bother with any other taverna in Agia Gallini this is the place to go it won’t disappoint.

the food was bad. we had fish with vegetables. the vegetables were ice cold and the fish wasn’t cooked well, kind of raw. I had the pork and it tasted like an Asian sweet and sour dish

Very nice place with quality food. Stands out from the rest of the taverna's. Owner is genuinely nice and has a lovely bird called Cookie. Great self-made tables with epoxy casting. Only the chairs outside are a little uncomfortable. I would definitely recommend this restaurant while in Agia Galini.

Very good place and good food. Staff are very friendly. I ordered a Mousaka and it is a good serving for the price.

Food is ok. Bald waiter is very rude, bread was average, simple burger bagel, nothing special to go with tzatziki. No dessert or fruit from the house.

We visited this place the first night of our holiday and we were looking forward to some delicious Cretan food, having been to the island several times and rarely disappointed. However this was by far the worst restaurant we have ever been to here. We ordered our favourite dishes; Greek salad, saganaki, tsatziki, pork souvlaki and moussaka. The Greek salad had only 4 olives and a tiny piece of feta. The saganaki was dry and too rubbery. The tsatziki was ok but the pork souvlaki didn’t taste seasoned and the vegetables were undercooked and also tasteless. The worst past of the meal though was the moussaka, which was dry, undercooked with hard vegetables and completely flavourless. It’s like whoever is cooking these dishes has never tasted Greek cuisine - I can cook these dishes better myself! We ate as much as we could (knowing we’d have to pay for it!) but when we asked for the bill it took about half an hour for it to come and had to ask the waiter for it 3 times. When the bill came we’d been charged for the water and bread we didn’t ask for which was annoying considering the poor standard of the food. The free raki with the bill when it eventually arrived was pretty good but I can’t understand how this place has good reviews!

I was travelling alone Agia Galini and wanted to dine in a non-touristic, “homey” environment. After going through the reviews of restaurants in the area, I decided to try out this taverna and I am glad I did, for I was not disappointed. First of all, I love the ambiance of the taverna, as it was like I was visiting someone’s home. Seated on an elevated position from the a quiet part of a side lane, the plants surrounding the dining area created a very cosy and comforting environment. And then, of course, was the food. If you are looking for some authentic homecooked food, then, look no further! This is the place to be. I visited the taverna twice – I had the Lamb the first time, and the Shrimp Pasta on my second time. They were both delicious, and the portions were very generous! Finally, I appreciated the good and very friendly service. Manolis the waiter was very attentive, and I had some good conversation with Nikos the owner. Although I was dining alone, their friendly presence made me felt very comfortable and welcomed. Not awkward at all, as I had imagined dining alone would be!
