B	Bistra Kunovska on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens, known as the Metropolis, is the cathedral church of the Archdiocese of Athens, which has been under restoration and since 2017 has opened its doors to the public. Construction of the cathedral began on Christmas Day 1842 with the laying of the cornerstone by King Otto and Queen Amalia. Behind Metropolis is the church of Agios Eleftherios, known as the Little Metropolis. There are two statues in the square in front of the cathedral. One belongs to St. Constantine XI, the last Byzantine emperor, and the other to Archbishop Damaskinos, who was archbishop of Athens during World War II.

A	Anamaria Dutceac Segesten on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Cathedral is beautiful, 200 years old building in the typical orthodox style, with two stories, which is unusual. The interior walls are beautifully painted and there are icons, both painted and laid with precious metals. Despite it being old though, it had this 'newly renovated' feeling, which somehow put me off. Some of the main painted icons are more recent, 1948, 1952. It is a matter of taste, of course, but I prefer the old, small, simple Greek churches.
