★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A nice day trip from Thessaloniki this monastery offers beautiful views and a nice walk through history and Greek culture. I haven't yet worked out how to let Google Translate decipher the Greek language signs....so I had no idea what I was looking at.
Later on I googled that this place was built for safeguarding the relics of St Anastasia The Pharmakolytria (died AD 304). Sadly without ultimate result, because they were stolen by burglars in 2015. They are probably with some private collector now. A priest, interviewed for a newspaper article, stated that for this new owner the relics will have no positive effect whatsoever on his well-being in the "Great Beyond". Which I am happy to pass on.
Also there is a very nice Taverna with a spectacular view and very friendly staff!
