M	Manolis Akoumianakis on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Στο κέντρο της πόλης του Λουτρακίου δεσπόζει μεγαλοπρεπής και γαλήνια, η ιερή εκκλησία του Αγίου Ιωάννου του Προδρόμου, ο Μητροπολιτικός Ναός του Λουτρακίου. Ο πρώτος ναός που θεμελιώθηκε την 1 Φεβρουαρίου του 1886, καταστράφηκε από σεισμό και στη θέση του κτίσθηκε το 1933 ο σημερινός ιερός ναός, που θεμελιώθηκε στις 10 Απριλίου του ίδιου έτους, από το Σεβασμιότατο Μητροπολίτη Δαμασκηνό. Ο αρχιτεκτονικός ρυθμός του ναού, βασισμένος σε μελέτη του Ορλάνδου, είναι τρίκλιτη βασιλική με το μεσαίο κλίτος υπερυψωμένο, για να υπάρχει άπλετος φυσικός φωτισμός. Ο περιβάλλων χώρος του ναού, κομψά επιμελημένος, πλαισιώνεται από όμορφη και φροντισμένη δενδροφύτευση. Β.Δ. του ιερού ναού υψώνεται επιβλητικά το καμπαναριό, που συνδέεται με εσωτερική σκάλα. Ο ναός είναι σήμερα εξαίρετα αγιογραφημένος σύμφωνα με τη βυζαντινή τεχνοτροπία. Ιδιαίτερη εντύπωση προξενεί η επιβλητική τοιχογραφία της Πλατυτέρας, έργο εξαιρετικής τέχνης, που βρίσκεται στη μεσαία κόγχη του ιερού και χρονολογείται πριν από το 1930. Σημαντικές είναι και οι ιερές φορητές εικόνες που βρίσκονται στο ναό, καθώς επίσης και τα ξυλόγλυπτα προσκυνητάρια του Αγίου Ιωάννου του Προδρόμου και του Οσίου Παταπίου, που χαρακτηρίζονται από λεπτή και επιμελημένη τεχνική. Ο ιερός ναός εορτάζει τη μνήμη του Αγίου Ιωάννου στις 29 Αυγούστου με ευλάβεια και κατάνυξη. A special impression is made by the imposing fresco of Platytera, a work of exceptional art, located in the middle niche of the sanctuary and dating back to before 1930. Also important are the sacred portable icons found in the church, as well as the wood-carved shrines of Agios Ioannis Prodromos and Osios Patapios, which are characterized by delicate and elaborate technique. The church celebrates the memory of St. John on August 29 with reverence and devotion.
