Είναι λιθόκτιστος ναός και ευρίσκεται σε πανοραμικό λοφίσκο υψομέτρου 60 μέτρων του Αλιβερίου, όπισθεν του Ο.Τ.Ε. Για την κατασκευή του ναού της Κοιμήσεως της Θεοτόκου κυρίως χρησιμοποιήθηκε αρχιτεκτονικό υλικό προερχόμενο από ναό των κλασικών χρόνων. Μάλιστα, επάνω από τη νότια είσοδο βρίσκεται εντοιχισμένο θραύσμα επιτύμβιας στήλης του 4ου π.Χ. αιώνα με αετωματική επίστεψη, διακοσμημένη με δύο ρόδακες και έχουχα χαραγμένη την επιγραφή ‘‘Κλεαρίστη Καλλίππου». Ο ζωγραφικός διάκοσμος του ναού, που τελέστηκε την ίδια περίοδο με την κατασκευή του, σώζεται σε πολύ καλή κατάσταση, παρά την πυρκαγιά που έπληξε κάποτε το χώρο. Η Παναγίτσα Αλιβερίου είχε κτήτορες τον ιερέα Σταμάτιο (‘‘που πιθανότατα ήταν κάποιος άγνωστος λόγιος της εποχής») και τη σύζυγό του Ειρήνη. Ήταν, μάλιστα , κοιμητηριακού χαρακτήρα ναός.
