Στο βορινό λόφο της Συκιάς δεσπόζει ο επιβλητικός πέτρινος ναός του Αγίου Αθανασίου, ο οποίος χτίστηκε το 1814, καταστράφηκε το 1854 (από τον Μακεδόνα οπλαρχηγό Τσάμη Καρατάσο, ο οποίος απέκλεισε μέσα στην εκκλησία τους Τούρκους, που διαφέντευαν μέχρι τότε τη Συκιά, και τους έκαψε),ο οποίος αργότερα έστειλε τα απαραίτητα χρήματα για την ανοικοδόμησή του στα 1861. Στο εσωτερικό του ναού ενδιαφέρον παρουσιάζουν το ταβάνι με τα γεωμετρικά μοτίβα του και τα ξυλόγλυπτα ομφάλια, το ξυλόγλυπτο σανιδωτό τέμπλο που κοσμείται με κληματίδες αμπέλου και σταφύλια, καθώς και τα ξυλόγλυπτα στοιχεία του εξοπλισμού, όπως ο δεσποτικός θρόνος , τα προσκυνητάρια (έργα των αρχών του 18ου αιώνα, προερχόμενα μάλλον από το Άγιον Όρος).
