★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We are at the center all this week for the IHF Beach Handball World Championships 2022. What we've discovered, right under our noses outside Crete's capital of Heraklion, is one of the nicest and most professionally run sports complexes we've ever visited. I've been an athlete most of my life, and a journalist for more than 30 years, and this is just a superb venue.
The IHF, the Hellenic Handball Federation, and everyone involved in these championships have been top-drawer, and the complex itself is stunning here on the pristine beaches of Crete's north shore. First aid staff to the managers and volunteers, you could not ask for friendlier, more competent people. My hat is off to the people responsible for creating this wonderful park for Cretans and the world to enjoy. Five stars, for sure.
