Excellent accommodation and restaurant with sea views and close to several sandy beaches, Yiannis, Michalis and their families look after your every need, lovely people

Where to start? We are an enlarged, multi-generational family of 12. We stayed in a small village about 15-20 mins walk, for a sober adult. To book/order a taxi back to our apartments would take a while as they would have to come from the next town as there are no taxi firms locally. The charge is from the car leaving the town to pick you up, so with ALL of us plus car seats, just on taxis alone, that's an expensive evening! Not at Kavousanos. They are more than happy, to virtually insisting, that they do multiple trips to our apartments, 5mins away. 3-4 round trips, best part of an hour. Yes, it's in their interest to be friendly and offer a service, I suspect most of the tavernas and bars do the same. What makes this taverna different? The people! The family. Lead by the matriarch Maria. The archetypal Greek grandmother! Smiling, always. Warm and giving, always.Big, genuine hugs as if you are the prodigal son returning from years of absence. Not only is Maria the queen of Kavousanos, also the cook. This is not just genuine Greek fayre, this is home grown, locally sourced, fresh to being organic, nothing frozen and all ALL handmade. Every dish a winner! I could go on about her, but George Snr might get jealous! ? I mention George Snr, the King of Kavousanos, the avuncular uncle, perfectly matched to Maria his wife. Proud of his achievements, his family and extended and rightly so. With pride he tells you every weekend the family all go up to his house in the mountains for a BBQ. His house looks down over Istron and he surveys all that goes on, his house he builds himself, his olive and lime groves, which he farms himself. A very proud man and great company. Then there's Yiannis (?) the first of many sons, after a full day's work, as an engineer, he's back to the family business, helping and ferrying us and others to their respective apartments or lodgings. Then there's his brother George, much the same as his brother, works in the day and back to the taverna to help as well as taxi driver to us and others (we ended up here many times as you can tell?). Then the grandchildren, our main contacts George Jnr (no surprises there) & Evie (?). I start here as I started at the beginning; where to start? Two young adults who are the politest, happy and smiling people that you could ever wish to meet! Could not do enough for us, as individuals or as a group. Many different wants and demands from 60yr+ and 13yr+ English people not too certain about what they might be eating! George Jnr doing the morning shift, then off to private schooling, then Evie taking over after her morning session of private schooling. Economics, English, maths and a science, this young lady wants to be an economist. With her head on those shoulders, the world will be a better place. A lovely, intelligent, hardworking and welcoming young lady than you could wish to meet. George Jnr, very much like his older sister crossed with his grandmother, Maria. For a 15yr old young man, he can hug like bear! I know I did and I know that the rest of 'our party's thoroughly enjoyed our holiday to Crete, image only better by our meeting of this lovely family. Our last day was slightly emotional! The family went over and above. We had to leave our apartments by 10am, late flights meant we had to occupy adults, teenagers and two under 2yrs. Can't spend all day and most of the night at an airport! No problem. Maria insisted she pick us up at 9.30am +after a night working in the restaurant), taking our cases, the children, the teenagers, the adults, 4 round trips and we leave our cases etc at her apartments. Insisting that we go to beaches and the town and arrange our transfer from there. Nothing for Maria and family to gain, as we would have been elsewhere! A few went to a beach, most stayed at their private swimming pool. No charge or even having to buy anything from her as Maria offered to keep OUR drinks cold in HER fridge! Running out of letters. Stay? Yes

Excellent and well equipped apartment. Kitchen is basic but gets the job done. Everyhing works and is clean. Lemon trees right out the front door are full of fruit! Close to all amenities, view from the apartment terraces is amazing.
