Στον λόφο "Κούκος" της Συκιάς υπήρχε οικισμός με μοναστήρι και νεκροταφείο της Πρώιμης Εποχής του Σιδήρου (1050 - 670 π.Χ.). Η έρευνα ανασκαφής αποκάλυψε αξιοθαύμαστα αρχιτεκτονικά κατάλοιπα, με ευρήματα από την καθημερινή ζωή του οικισμού που χρονολογούνται από τον 10ο έως τον 8ο αιώνα. ΠΡΟ ΧΡΙΣΤΟΥ. Η μεταλλουργική δραστηριότητα είναι ο λόγος για την ίδρυση του οικισμού στον Κούκο, αφού υπάρχουν δύο μεταλλείματα μέσα σε πέντε χιλιόμετρα. Περίπου 100 τάφοι βρέθηκαν στο νεκροταφείο του οικισμού.
