★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Όταν το 1826 ο Αιγυπτιακός στρατός του Ιμπραήμ κατέστρεψε τα πάντα στην Πελοπόννησο πολλοί εδήλιασαν. Η Μαυροσπηλιά για μια ακόμη φορά και τελευταία, ήταν το καταφύγιο των κυνηγημένων κατοίκων. Λέγεται ότι ένα βράδυ ο Κολοκοτρώνης πήρε μαζί του μερικούς Βεργουβιτσιώτες από τη Μαυροσπηλιά που συμμετείχαν στην μάχη της Ζαχόλης (σημερινής Ευρωστίνης)
 When in 1826 the Egyptian army of Ibrahim destroyed everything in the Peloponnese many argued. Mavrospilia was once again the last refuge for the hunted inhabitants. It is said that one night Kolokotronis took with him some Vergovitsians from Mavrospilia who participated in the battle of Zahol (today's Eurostine).
