★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This Mycenean cemetery fell out of the sky because we just gave up finding the Mycenean cemetery of Metaxata and we were heading back for the hotel. On the main road we noticed 2 different signs, so it is accessible from 2 different starting points from the main road, The little cemetery is located on a ridge in the rocks behind the housing. I love ancient history but as we already gave up on on the other cemetery, my wife stayed in the car with all cameras so I was unable to take some snapshots from this one. The site is rather (4m x 30m) small but open to public. I has an information board showing the location of the different tombs in the bedrock along with a few of their findings.
The site itself has been adapted for tourism but but as it was only at the start of the touristic season maintenance (cutting plants) was needed. Attention: next to the pavement towards the site there is some rusty barbed wire hidden in the long grass.
So 3 stars only from an ancient history lover, if you have little interest in ancient history, you'll only rate this site with 0.5 star
