Pay what it's worth

Strange as it may sound, our tours are 100% free to join. All our tours operate on a “pay-what-it’s-worth”- basis to suit everyone’s budget.

Although you could just show up and join the tour, it is highly recommended to book in advance as free places are often quite limited.

Had an absolutely amazing tour of Athens today with George, who tailored the whole experience to our group perfectly. Saw the best sights over three hours in a very relaxing and enjoyable way. Would highly recommend.

English George was our tour guide; he was very knowledgeable and patient with our group. He also would check in to see if we wanted to keep going or to end the tour. We definitely recommend him as your guide! The one criticism I have of New Athens is that they do not indicate where exactly to meet in Monastiraki Square. The square is fairly large, and at the hour the tour starts, it is very busy!! New Athens also doesn’t have any uniform, so you need to find a regular clothes person holding a relatively small sign, which can be a challenge. George did wait a few minutes after the tour start time to see if there were any latecomers, but I would suggest you get there a little early to give yourself enough time to wander around looking for your guide.

I've reserved a place for the tour one week in advance. After arriving to the meeting spot 10 minutes earlier,as required, and waiting for half an hour with no one coming up, I receive the message that the tour had been cancelled. I found it really irresponsible. If you want a free Tour from Athens, there are plenty of other ones that are a lot better.

Awesome walking tour with British George. Usually meant to go for 2.5 hours but he spent over 3 which was more than fine with us as he had lots of interesting sites to see and stories to tell. We got the "R" rated version (which I definitely recommend if there's no kids on the tour) of Athens history which was not only informative but very humorous and engaging! He also informed us of the best restaurants to eat at, attractions/museum prices and best times to visit, as well as how to get to the port/airport/beaches. Thanks for a great morning George!!!

Fantastic tour w Walter, who is an educated scholar in Greek-Roman history. He is full of stories. He even kept my 10 and 13 year olds interested for 3 hours. It was quite amazing. We learned a valuable history lesson. Definitely do this tour the first thing you arrive in Athens. We went to visit Acropolis without a guide before this tour, it was very boring for the kids to stay interested for the visit. You can take a guide at the gate of the Acropolis, they charge an insane amount. It is better to do the English tour w Walter and you have an idea before going to see the Acropolis or any other ruins in detail. He has a tour at 10:30 everyday departing from the square near the flea market. Don’t forget to tip him well at the end of the tour. That’s the way the free tour guides can actually survive. I was shocked some cheap tourists literally did a free tour without giving any gratuity. You can save anywhere, but don’t save on a great guide who is passionate about sharing his knowledge.

Can't think of a better tour in Athens! Fun, Entertaining & Educational! Be respectful and tip the guide, it's how they get paid.

Still waiting for the tourist guide. They cancelled the tour at the exact time of the tour. Thanks guys I visit Athens every 20 years, so don’t worry. Now the company says we were late. But as my colleague reviewed we were not late. The company is not saying the truth. The thing is that I have pictures that prove it. This picture has the time stamped and the time we were in place can be checked. New Athens Tour, you are improving your credibility

Since we have traveled quite a bit over the last months (Roadtrip through 24 countries), I can say with a clear conscious that this was the best tour we ever did. Walter holds a Masters degree in Greek and Roman History and processes a sheer unbelievable amount of historical facts and a lot of knowledge. He showed us some ancient cites that we would have never visited without this tour. It was super interesting to also hear a bit about the slaves and women in those ancient times. He also talked a a bit about the history of American archeology in Athens. All in all a very informative and interesting tour! After 3,5 hours of pure joy he let us off with a perfect restaurant recommendation. Thank you so much Walter! We gained more knowledge from you than from the Agora and Akropolis museums combined! He was also super open to answer questions and talk about modern days societal problems.
