After hiking the Samaria Gorge, then driving to Atsipopoulo Village, I let my family relax at our lodging while I went walking in search of some dinner for everyone. First place I came to was O Manolis, where a gentleman sat reading a newspaper in an otherwise empty restaurant. (The entire village was attending a music festival at the local high school.) He greeted me warmly and I asked for some food to go. He had some aromatic lamb stew, savory meatballs, and succulent Greek salad with the most buttery feta I have ever eaten. He made french fries for the kids and poured a liter of chilled, homemade Cretan white wine into a bottle for me to take. He included some freshly baked pita and little tasty morsels of dessert. Charged me Euro 25 for the entire feast.
Back at the lodging, the meal was devoured with fighting over who would get seconds, even among picky children. We stayed for 3 days and returned for dinner each succeeding night, never once being tempted to try anything else.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The best local experience ever! All Mr Manolis needed to know whether we would like to drink wine or beer. The rest was up to him and his very talented wife. Amazing food and very tasty wine. He brought us many local delicacies inc. vegetables from his garden and the best local cheese. Loved it ❤️

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Fantastic restaurant off the beaten track and away from tourist traps. Manolis and his wife are so welcoming, and the food is so fresh. We loved the vegs, the meatballs and the stewed meat in particular. Bye Manolis, hopefully see you again!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I am really sorry i can give only 5 stars. The most authentic cretan cuisine i have had for really long time. Excellent tastes made of owner's fresh products. We loved the mouth watering meatballs and the marvellous beef. Another thing, do not worry about menu, Manolis is like grandma giving you all the best you need. Ultimate value for the money you pay. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
