Old Monastery - Old Monastery

A monastery completely inaccessible. We were lucky that a worker brought us here by car. The monastery is open only from 10.00 to 12.00. Its architecture and the perfection of its construction, aroused my awe.

The Serbs are called Old Panteleimon or Russian. It is known to us that the Holy Sava performed a monastic postrig here. In the church there is a huge fresco of St. Sava. In the history of the Serbian people, the monastery Rusik occupies a special place. Young Prince Rastko, the youngest son of the ruler of Serbia, the great mayor Stefan Nemanja, arrived in the Holy Mountain in the autumn of 1192 against the will of his father with the desire to mingle. The army sent by Stefan Nemanja to Rastko found him in the Russian monastery Rusik as a peacemaker - an alien, and wanted to take him home immediately. However, Rastko and the monks thought of a "pious fraud". They asked the soldiers to go in the morning only after they prayed before God. And while the army was abundantly hosted during the night, Rastko grew up in a monastery tower, dressed in a monastic race, named after the holy Sava Osvećena. From Russia Saint Sava went to the Vatoped Monastery where he joined him in 1197 and his father is now a monk Simeon.

Skit RUSIK - the old monastery of Saint Panteleimon belongs to the Russian monasticism. It is located about 2.5 kilometers away from the sea above the present-day Saint Panteleimon Monastery, located on the coast. It was founded at the beginning of the 12th century. The Rusik monastery has a special place in the history of the Serbian people. The young prince Rastko, the youngest son of the great mayor of Serbia, the great mayor Stefan Nemanja, arrived in Mount Athos in the fall of 1192 contrary to his father's will and desire to conceive. When the threat of various attacks by pirates and Turks ceased in the early nineteenth century, Russian monks moved from Rusik to a new monastery on the coast. After a while, the old Russian almost completely abandoned and lost the status of a monastery. Today, there are no monks in Rusik all the time, but it is visited and maintained by Panteleimon monks.
