V	Vas Pit on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Πρόκειται για τον επιβλητικό ναό του Παντοκράτορα που χτίστηκε περίπου το 900 μ.Χ. και αποτελεί σημείο αναφοράς για την πόλη της Πάτρας! Ο Ιερός Ναός του Παντοκράτορα Πατρών χτίστηκε πάνω στα ερείπια αρχαίου ναού του Ολυμπίου Διός και είναι ο πρώτος καθεδρικός ναός της Πάτρας, βυζαντινού ρυθμού και αντίγραφο του ναού της Αγίας Σοφίας στην Κωνσταντινούπολη. Διακρίνεται για τους όμορφους τρούλους του, οι οποίοι εξωτερικά είναι μολύβδινοι, και τον υπέροχο εσωτερικό του διάκοσμο. Τα χρόνια της Τουρκοκρατίας ο ναός μετατράπηκε σε «τζαμί» και η περιοχή του αποτέλεσε το κέντρο της αγοράς της πόλης, το επονομαζόμενο Τάσι και εκεί βρίσκονταν τα λουτρά, το χαμάμ και γενικότερη η καρδιά της Πάτρας. Το 1687 ο Μοροζίνι κατάργησε το τζάμι και μετονόμασε το ναό σε Αγ. Μάρκου, ενώ το 1828 μετατράπηκε σε ένα τεράστιο νοσοκομείο για τους στρατιώτες του στρατηγού Μεζόν Με την απελευθέρωση όμως επανήλθε στην αρχική του κατάσταση και αποτελεί πλέον μοναδικό θρησκευτικό μνημείο στην περιοχή. απο το exfacto.gr It is the imposing temple of Pantokrator built around 900 AD. and is a reference point for the city of Patras!
