Patrick and Joan Leigh Fermor's home is located in the Kalamitsi area, near Kardamili, above the sea. Renovation work has been done on the house from 2017 to 2019. The Benaki Museum, which was donated, will be used as a celebrity host but will also be available for rent for a few months a year. It has amazing spaces inside and outside (courtyards, kiosks, kiosks, etc.) and blends in with the Mani nature. Personally, I had a question: It is a shame that such a house does not (?) Have access to the sea as it is on a cliff in front of it. My question was solved when I swam quite a bit from Kalamitsi to Kardamili and standing straight at the front of the house found that the house naturally and had access to the sea. This is done by a split stone staircase that does not stand out from the neighboring rocks. At first glance you don't see it but if you look very carefully, it seems. This staircase leads to a small well-formed bay that is inaccessible to the right and left due to the high rocks. The house is not only dreamy but also has a private beach!

Currently all the books and belongings have been taken out, the Benaki museum is trying to find a way to preserve the books. Because of the seasalt in the air the books where falling in to decay.

Because of the Covid 19 pandemic the center is closed for visitors. You can only see the exterior part of the house. Better than nothing!

The house is currently closed for renovation and, according to the website for the Benaki, which manages the site, it is due to reopen Summer 2019. A few important things to note for your visit: - the house is not in Kydamili, it's in Kalamitsi, a few minutes and several turns of the road south of Kydamili. - the turning for the house is on the west side of the coast road, on a bend, and is almost impossible to see until you are on top of it as it is both unmarked and very steeply sloping. Use this coordinate: 36.879339, 22.243963 - park on the road, below the house, that leads to the beach. On the right is safest. - we walked on the beach around to the cove below the house and went for a swim where Paddy used to, which was a magical experience. An abandoned car lies across the steps up to the house, which is pretty grim. Let's hope that gets sorted. Looking forward to visiting when it's open and re-reviewing.

It is an a very beautiful house, and fans of Fermor will enjoy it, even only the outside glimpse that is currently possible. Note that it is still closed to visitors, and expected to open again in October 2021. The nearby beach of Kalamitsi is very much worth the trip.
