Generous portions of delicious local food, by the beach and with a friendly welcome. I loved this place, I am so happy I found this restaurant and will for sure visit again....

One of the best meals I've ever had!

We moved to Kolymvari last month and therefore we have the opportunity to review all restaurants in the area. We had not been to Penakothiri before but had lunch there today (June 4, 2022). The setting and views are fantastic as they are of course at all water front tavernas, and the young lady (who was by herself trying to serve well over 25 guests while we were there) tried her very best and was quite pleasant. But service (and clearing) was very slow. More importantly, the food was quite disappointing. Calamari and fried vegetables way over salted, Greek salad non-inspiring and overall we were not impressed with the kitchen of this place. Unfortunately, first and last time we were here.

I don't have enough words to share my experience in this tavern! Amazing atmosphere with great view in Kolimvari port perfectly match with a clean and peaceful place which provides true Cretan food and hospitality. This tavern steps up from the others, just because they treat you like a guest and not like a ordinary customer. Congratulations.

The meal was very delicious despite we had to wait for it quite long and not all dishes on the menu were served. A fresh breeze from the sea makes it comfortable here even on noon. You have a beautiful view over the bay and can enjoy real Cretan draft beer. The prices are moderate and fair. The facilities - normally not mentioned- were first class. If you want to take a bath on the pebble beach a shower is not far away.

Full five stars - absolutely no doubts. A true gem, standing out from the other restaurants in this area! We actually wanted to eat elsewhere, but then we would have missed this place.... shame! Family operated with really nice staff. Speaking English, flawless service, makes you totally welcome at their place. Starter with addictive bread and dips. Olives great! Fried veggies - fresh, tasty, crispy! An amazing snack! Steamed mussels - obviously fresh from the sea, the only downside was the broth, which I can't describe what they put into it. Garlic, yes, but the rest stays a mystery to me. Kids wife and even the stray cat liked it. Me not that much. Will not effect a true 5-star experience. Fried fish - was the sensation of the day! Four fished fried to perfection. Crispy outside and mouth melting tender inside. What a delight! The four of us (and the cat) reverently inhaled them! A must-try! Complimentary dessert - flan with caramel sauce. First I was a bit sceptical..... but after the first bite - lord in heaven, what a surprise: sooo light, almost without texture at all, not like those heavy puddings, melting in your mouth, disappearing with the touch of your tongue, leaving this amazing taste in your mouth, not too intense, but gentle and light. Best desert of all the restaurants we tried so far. I almost ate the spoon as well :D This place gets my full satisfaction. Highly recommended! ?

During our holiday, we ate several times in this very familiar restaurant. They give you a very warm welcome and serve very delicious homemade food. The house wine is highly recommended, it even tastes good in Germany (many thanks again for that :) ). If we go on holiday to Crete again, this will be our first port of call for dinner. We will see you again ??
