Το 1207 μ.Χ., τρία χρόνια μετά την άλωση της Κωνσταντινούπολης από τους Σταυροφόρους , το κάστρο δόθηκε στην οικογένεια των Μελισσηνών. Το 1423 κατακτήθηκε από τους Οθωμανούς. Τότε οι χριστιανοί κάτοικοί του έφυγαν και εγκαταστάθηκαν σε χωριά του Πηλίου. Εντός του κάστρου οι Οθωμανοί έκτισαν τζαμί και έκαναν τις δικές τους παρεμβάσεις. Το 1889 κατεδαφίστηκε το μεγαλύτερο μέρος των τειχών για να ενοποιηθεί ο χώρος με τη σύγχρονη πόλη του Βόλου. Η πυριτιδαποθήκη του κάστρου, κοντά στη βόρεια πύλη, σώζεται σε ερειπιώδη κατάσταση. Πρόκειται για ένα θολωτό κτίσμα με μια μικρή είσοδο στην ανατολική πλευρά του. Σε όλο το λόφο τα σύγχρονα κτίσματα συνυπάρχουν με τα ίχνη του παρελθόντος.

In 1207 AD, three years after the fall of Constantinople by the Crusaders, the castle was given to the family of Melissenos. In 1423 it was conquered by the Ottomans. Then his Christian inhabitants left and settled in the villages of Pelion. Inside the castle the Ottomans built a mosque and made their own interventions. In 1889 most of the walls were demolished to consolidate the area with the modern city of Volos. The castle's silicon warehouse, near the northern gate, is preserved in a rustic state. It is a vaulted building with a small entrance on its eastern side. Throughout the hill the modern buildings coexist with the traces of the past.
