★ ★ ★ ★ ★ What an experience. Good Food. Good and very cheap wine.
As an Austrian I was suprised by "Singlino of Mani". In Austria "Gselchtes" with "Würstel". Never expected to find such food in the very South of Europe. Not far from where ancient Greeks located the End of the world.
Go there.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Retro family taverna with very friendly service. The food is nothing special but it is original and the prices are good. The cult environment brings memories. Parking was easy and I recommend it for road tripers or people passing by. Balcony view is cool.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very tasty food. The owners are very welcoming. This was a very good idea to stop when driving from the Lighthouse Tenaro to Gythio.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Don't be deceived by the outside looks and head straight for a table on the balcony looking at the sea. Here the meat is as good as it gets. No frills, just pure deliciousness.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Best slow-oven-cooked Greek dishes in the area. It might look a kafeneio from outside, but it has a balcony with a true seaview.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Gem to Discover in Kokala.
Based on a casual drive past, I must admit we would never have stopped. This taverna, in the middle of Kokala, looks oh so intimidating and ever so slightly scary (for a foreigner at least).
But then we would have missed out on a real gem. Good honest Greek cooking, with local ingredients and portions / prices straight out of the 80’s.
Two of us had a Choroatiki Salad, local Siglino pork, fresh Kalamari, Goat and potatoes, tzatziki and a litre of house wine for 34 Euros. The lady of the taverna could not be more welcoming.
Be brave. Try it. You won’t be disappointed.
